Amnon Lipkin - Telling stories with thread on Canvas.
Amnon Lipkin is an artist and craftsman based in Tel Aviv, Israel. His journey into the world of art was significantly influenced by acquiring a Singer sewing machine ten years ago, which enabled him to transition from other careers and elevate his crafting hobbies into his primary business and creative endeavor.
The simple stitch on plain canvas gradually transformed into intricate sewn sketches. Lipkin uses the sewing machine as a pen, drawing on canvas fabric as if it were paper. His sewn sketches are typically created using a continuous line drawing technique, where a single thread runs from beginning to end. Most of his works feature black thread on off-white, natural-colored, thick canvas.
Lipkin's sewn sketches frequently depict city scenes, creating a dynamic interplay between the delicate technique and the often rugged subject matter. He views his sewn sketches as a modern extension of traditional embroidery, blending contemporary and classical elements.
Today, Amnon Lipkin's sewn sketches and similar textile artworks constitute the core of his creative output, showcasing his unique approach to art through the medium of fabric and thread.
